February 9, 2018 Hamden, Connecticut – Vanessa Research (VRI), a New Haven based research and development company, has announced it will be supporting Rare Disease Day 2018 at Quinnipiac University. Dr. Dmitry Kravtsov, VP of Research and Development for VRI will be one of two presenters at the University’s North Haven Campus on February 27th, 2018 at 1:00PM. Dr. Kravtsov will focus on Microvillus Inclusion Disease (MVID), a rare pediatric genetic disease. “Rare Disease Day officially takes place on the last day of February each year. The main objective of Rare Disease Day is to raise awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients’ lives.
The campaign targets primarily the general public and also seeks to raise awareness amongst policy makers, public authorities, industry representatives, researchers, health professionals and anyone who has a genuine interest in rare diseases1.” The theme for this year is “research”, a continuation of last year’s theme. “The uniqueness of Rare Disease Day is that it brings people together. Patients, medical professionals, and support groups are dealing with different aspects of rare diseases. Giving them opportunity to meet face to face and to talk is a wonderful thing.” said Dr. Richard Lutes, a hematologist oncologist. Dr. Kravtsov also commented on his upcoming presentation and “hopes that his presentation will not only shed light on MVID, but also on how rare disease research can help bring forth advances in more common diseases” Participating in Rare Disease Day is part of VRI’s global initiative for raising awareness about MVID. In the upcoming year, VRI will begin clinical trials of Shylicine™, an oral treatment for MVID, hold the first MVID conference and continue its educational campaign.
