Quinnipiac University will be holding a Rare Disease Day lecture and panel discussion to focus on the stories and challenges of individuals affected by rare diseases.
The idea is to make medical professionals aware that they will likely encounter people with these diseases at least once in their career. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Dmitry V. Kravtsov, vice president of research and development at Vanessa Research, and Ellen Matloff, assistant professor at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and president and CEO of My Gene Counsel. One of the diseases that will be addressed during the discussion is Miyoshi myopathy, which is a rare form of muscular dystrophy that begins in adulthood.
Christopher Anselmo, who has been diagnosed with disease, says events like these are important in allowing other patients with rare diseases to meet and relate to one another. The event begins at noon on February 27th at the Center for Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at the university’s North Haven Campus.
